I don't know if anyone saw my earlier post as "Chris" before I registered, but once the "story" starts, is there anyone that can get rid of the old posts (ones that have nothing to do w/ the story and are basically just clutter) so that we can clear up some room and make sure everything is organzied and in place?
I think it'd be helpful if we're starting fresh, in a way. Maybe just get rid of all of the posts before a certain date and archive them so that they can be found, but to where they're not clogging up all of the other boards.

Just for the record, I am officially no longer the only one who thinks there's a little clutter.
It's alright, though. The threads you see are newer than they look, because the admin already deleted the old posts. From now on an archive would be cool, but those old posts were deleted because they were almost another generation of roleplayers that did not interact with this one.

There is some clutter. The scary thing I find is there are a lot of members I find inactive, or haven't posted much. My suggestion is to maybe clear them out, but then again, the high number attracted me in the first place to join, so we probably shouldn't touch any of the members. Something to point out.
And another thing - We shouldn't just do one huge scale plot, started and ended by staff. My idea is that plots are annually released. Like, starting the month of whatever, a plauge breaks out, causing blah blah blah freckles explode blah blah blah dramatic stuff here. The plague would have certain affects, thriving in the months of summer and dying off in winter, whatever you guys want to say. And eventually, we'd just have to find some way to lower the plague, and aybe just make it an ordinary sickness that now doesn't often strike out people as it did as it started out. And this is just an example. Plus, I'm not sure we could use a plague as a timed affair (like, only lasts 3 months), but more of a thing that eventually ends and doesn't take on the entire rp existence.
We can do things that generally affect people, like festivals similar to the German Beerfest (Of course, a different name and a whole background story, like we do with thanksgiving and easter), Midsummer Festival, etc. We can have a general topic title that holds temporary boards that are only open for a few months, like event boards. And we shouldn't just be stranded with festivals. Hurricane attack on seaport, recent fire, natural disasters, etc. could be possibilities.
I know it would be hard to keep track of, but it's a pretty good thing to try. One, with the events, role plays carry out longer and have some event to stick to. Two, for some reason, plots and events that are continually updated for certain times/event stuff, people log in more and check. It works amazingly. And third, I just find it fun to make characters drunk for a reason ;3

does anyone mind if I give this place a cleanup? I mean there's a lot from 2007 that hasn't been touched yet and the place is getting a little crowded.

I'm new to the site, this is my first post ever, and I'm only thirteen so my word may not count for much but please listen to what I have to say. I've been reading this thread, getting up to date. The idea is a good one but the best way, I believe, to create a plot is to not have an ending at all. New eras and events sure, but not an end. This is how star wars is so succesful, the endless battle between the jedi and the sith. Everything is different but it all gravitates around that general idea of jedi against sith and everything is tied together, it's an endless storyline. Our world doesn't end, so why should our character's world end?
So here is what I propose: 1. Factions. The world, along with less important factions would all revolve around two or three major factions who are constantly at war.
2. Races. Who doesn't love a variety of races to choose from? A lot of people would be dissapointed to come to the site and see that they only get to choose between human, elf, and dwarf. Maybe someone might want to be a lizard person, an orc, or mabye even like a wolf person, or god knows what else, mabye a race with wings. Freedom like this makes character creation less boring and playing the character more fun.
3. Locations. Neutral locations, faction controled locations, contested locations. The story would be much less interesting if it took place in the same battlefield all the time. Locations would be captured, liberated, turned into warzones, etc. This would allow for different situations to occur like you are about to read in part four.
4. Eras. The story would become boring if the situation were not changing. Battles must be won and lost. As an example, there may be times when a certain faction has total control and another faction might try to make a comeback. There may even be the demise of a faction or the uprising of a new one. Without changes it would be like little kids playing with toy guns saying no I killed you, no I killed you, no you can't kill me because the good guys never lose. That also brings up a good point, the good guys shouldn't always win.

Sorry to say, but check the date on the post right before yours. This thread, and most of the board, have been abandoned. There are only about three users left, not counting yourself, and the other two don't seem to be checking the board much.

wow, that's a fail on my part. Why do you still post and such then? Are you waiting to see if a wave of new people come and bring the place back to life? (That wasn't meant to be rude, in case it seems that way)

I've thought, and I have a proposal. I am going to attempt to create a roleplaying site with a plot like I was talking about. We can't really rebuild this site because we don't have admin powers and besides, it's already used if you know what I mean, there's all the junk that was left behind. If we make a new site and really try to bring it to life I think it can succeed. Are you interested? I could really use your help if you're up to it, it would be difficult to accomplish by myself.

That kind of project requires a large team of dedicated people. Exactly how much experience do you have?

Well I'm working on the site right now, I'm expecting it to be ready to go in mabye one or two weeks, february at the very latest. I've already began working on the plot, setting, factions, etc. with my best friend andrew. I'm dedicating all of my time to this project, I have nothing better to do anyways. This is my top priority and I'm enjoying making it so far. What I really need you to do is see if you can find some people who are interested in joining once I get the site up. I know a few people who'd be interested, they might know a few people who'd be interested, it's like a virus. This will give us a good foundation, and we should be able to get this thing off the ground. We can use this thread as a "homebase" to give updates and such until the site is up. As for experience, I have enough to make this work. So what do you say, are you in, or are you out?

I might be interested in joining, but I have next to no contacts for your little virus. I might be able to help out with some minor writing tasks, but that's just about all I have to offer.

Alright, well just hang tight, things are going way faster than I planned. We might be able to actually use the site today or tomorrow. I still haven't figured out how to change the sites appearance yet, I've never used this site format before. I'll let you know when it's ready.

I've made the site. The tavern can be used but the site isn't ready for roleplaying yet. You might want to add it to your favorites because the adress isn't that easy. Here's the link: s4.zetaboards.com/Shard/index/
